A Skills Gap Self-Check
A skills gap is a term the posting uses that your bullets do not prove yet. The check is a list you can act on, not a score.
Make two lists
List the nouns in three postings for the title you want: tools, cycles, certificates, and the results they mention. Then list the nouns in your current bullets. Anything on the first list and not the second is a gap. Anything on the second list and not the first can stay if it is true, but it is not what this search is filtering for.
Do this on paper or in a note you control. Do not paste a resume that still has a phone number or an email into a random form.
Sort the gaps
Three piles are enough. You have done the work and only the word is missing: fix the bullet today. You have done something close: write the close system and the result, and do not rename it to the posting’s product. You have not done it: leave it off the resume and decide later whether the skill is worth learning for this title.
A certificate you do not hold is the third pile, even if a course is famous. Name it only after you hold it.
A short self-check
Read each remaining gap and answer one question: can I tell a two-minute story with a result? If yes, it is a bullet. If no, it is not a keyword yet.
Then pick one gap to close with practice, not with a purchased promise. Time, cost, and whether target postings actually ask for it are the comparison. A longer degree and a short coaching block solve different problems. Neither is a recommendation from this page.
- Posting nouns vs. bullet nouns
- Word missing, work close, or work absent
- One story with a result, or leave it out
